DIY Faux succulent power strip for desk/vanity “Power Plant”

I love my vanity. The only thing I could not find a solution for was my power for blow dryers/straighteners. I was not a fan of leaving them plugged in under the vanity nor was I going to put a traditional power strip out in the open, gross. I have honestly searched the internet/Pinterest everything for an idea to have power but keep it looking nice. I used to be able to find vanity mirrors with plugs inside but I couldn’t find any I liked and of course there was always the occasional desk lamps I could use. And this is how this idea came to be.

Here is a photo of the finished power plant!

If you want to make one yourself.

Here is what you need:

  • 1 Wooden box – I used pencil cups found on Amazon
  • Grommet power strip – amazon again.
  • Rocks/faux succulents – Michaels
  • Drill
  • 3″ hole dozer drill bit
  • 1-1.5″ drill bit for making holes again
  • Hot glue gun

Steps to make:

  1. Drill a 3″ hole yin our box.
  2. Drill a corresponding smaller hole for the plug to come out of. –mine got kinda messy sicne the plug Was a bit larger than I anticipated. I used the lid of a plastic water bottle to make a small grommet to pass the wire.
  3. Thread cable through and press in power grommet
  4. Create a base for your rocks – I used cardboard the amazon package came in. I cut it a bit latrger han needed and folded up the sides to create a bowl type base.
  5. Add rocks and succulents. Hot glue of you want.
  6. Enjoy.

Grommet power and 3″ hole drilled in

Makeshift cable grommet to hide the gross hole I made. I used the lid of a water bottle. Maybe I’ll paint it one day.
Grommet clicked in. Nice and snug. Hot glue if you like.

Cardboard base

Fill with rocks add succulents!

All set up on the vanity! ❤
I have the plug facing away from eye view. Just a small turn when I need it. Other than that it’s a beautiful accent to the vanity.

Hope you enjoyed. Please let me know what you think!
